Kim Justice, R.V.T. is seen here performing a routine dental prophylaxis (cleaning) and polishing. The patient is under general anesthesia and is intubated to maintain the gas anesthesia and oxygen necessary for a safe procedure. Electronic and physical monitoring is done by the licensed veterinarian continuously throughout the procedure. Any necessary tooth extractions are performed by the veterinarian. General anesthesia allows us to clean under the gum line without causing discomfort to the patient which cannot be done in an awake patient.
